A former CEO of a private trust management firm claimed trial in the sessions court here today on 23 counts of corruption involving the receipt of RM1.56 million from a company.

Amir Mokhtar, 45, is accused of receiving RM1.56 million from KMDI Harta Bhd, deposited into his bank account between June 3 and 30, 2022.

The prosecution claimed the sum was a kickback for approving a RM100 million loan.

The offence allegedly took place at a bank branch in Seksyen 14 here.

Amir faces a maximum 20 years’ jail and a RM7.8 million fine if found guilty under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act.

Judge Nasir Nordin granted him bail of RM70,000 with one surety.

Amir was also ordered to surrender his passport pending disposal of his case and to report to the MACC office once a month.

The court set Nov 13 for case management.

Deputy public prosecutor Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Syed Azimal Amir Syed Abu Bakar represented Amir.
