Bradley Walsh's mystery Million Pound Shot will be a UK TV first: Here's what's actually happening

Translate

Channel 4 has been teasing that Bradley Walsh's new one-off gameshow The Million Pound Shot, set to air on Sunday, 1 November at 9pm, is going to be unmissable TV due to a huge twist.

Speculation has run rampant on X (formerly Twitter) over the last few days, with plenty jumping to some crazy conclusions about what the intriguing twist could be.

The conversation has largely been driven by The TV Podcast host Chuck Thomas, who has questioned if the show could be "a massive television hoax". He cited production company KFO Films as being known for making "fascinating documentaries and extraordinary stunts".

Thomas posited three theories: a Derren Brown-esque experiment, a seemingly-normal quiz show that goes wrong similar to an episode of Inside No 9, or a nationwide prank like 1992's infamous Ghostwatch, especially given that it's airing the day after Halloween.

Another X user mused something mysterious may be going on after they suggested a photo showed Bradley looking "anxious" and the audience looking "nervous".

Now, amid all the chatter, Channel 4 has revealed what's going on. While it's not as dramatic as people have been theorising, it's still pretty high-stakes.

The show will feature three contestants aiming to win £1 million, but in a British TV first, they'll be playing with their own money.

They'll bring their own bank cards and decide how much they want to bet based on how confident they are that their answers are right. Correct answers will award 'bet balls', which they can either cash out with, or fire them into the Million Pound Shot Machine to try and win the big prize.

"This programme is unlike anything we've seen on British TV before, and when I heard about this format I thought it was one of the most original and surprising quiz shows I'd ever encountered," Bradley said.

But that's not all. "Alongside playing with their own money, there are more twists and turns along the way," the host added. "I'm excited for everyone to see how it plays out."

And so are we.

The Million Pound Shot airs at 9pm, Sunday 1 November on Channel 4.
