Coronation Street's Christina makes major move to investigate shock death

Translate

Coronation Street's Christina Boyd is on the verge of setting the cat among the pigeons as she launches a one-woman crusade in a desperate bid to find out the truth behind the murder of her late daughter Rachel.

Richie is currently in prison over Rachel's alleged murder, but he is citing self defence, claiming he had been in an abusive relationship.

In scenes set to air next week, Christina will face Richie as she believes the sequence of his events don't add up, leaving her fearing that he may have murdered her estranged daughter in cold blood.

"Christina’s life changed forever when she discovered that her daughter Rachel was murdered," says our insider.

"She feels that Richie’s version of events simply doesn’t add up and will stop at nothing to get to the truth about what happened that fateful night – even if it means coming face to face with Richie himself."

Avid viewers of the ITV soap will see tomorrow that Christina wrote a letter to Richie in the hope that he would grant her permission to visit him in prison. After revealing this news to George, she is met with apprehension as he demanded that she leaves the investigation to the police, in fear she was getting in over her head – but she can't.

It wasn't that long ago, Christina found out that she was in fact the biological grandmother of Lucy, who is Rachel's daughter. However, the funeral parlour employee chose to remain silent of her discovery to Lucy, but revealed all to her employer George.

In scenes that will air later this month, viewers will see that Christina's well kept secret may actually be exposed as Lucy notices a picture of her late mother on Christina's keyring.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Amy Robbins, who plays Christina, recently said: "She tries to keep it a secret, but as you can imagine for Christina, she's not very good.

"She wears her heart on her sleeve and she's not very good at playing the long game – she just blurts stuff out because that's her nature."

She added: "It's about to get very awkward and difficult with Sally, very much so. The two of them have already got a history of squabbling. They're part of the same friendship group, but I think if any two of them from the gang are so different in personality, it's Sally and Christina. It's about to get very nasty between the two of them."

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
