NACOC destroys cannabis farms in Nadowli District

Translate

The Upper West Regional Command of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), in a joint operation with officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), has destroyed several cannabis farms at Siiru, a community in the Nadowli District of the Upper West Region.

The operation followed intelligence gathered by officers of the Ghana Immigration Service, which led the joint team to suspected cannabis cultivation sites in the community, located near the Black Volta.

During the exercise, the team identified several locations where cannabis was being cultivated. Some plants had already been harvested, while others were at various stages of maturity and nearly ready for harvest.

Further searches uncovered cannabis farms in incomplete buildings, in front of residential properties and alongside maize farms, suggesting that the illegal cultivation was taking place in different parts of the community.

The identified cannabis plants were subsequently destroyed by burning.

Following the operation, officers engaged community members in an education and sensitisation exercise on the dangers and consequences of cannabis cultivation and substance abuse.

The team urged residents to support efforts to combat illicit drug cultivation and distribution by providing timely information to the relevant authorities.
