BUTTERWORTH: Unusually heavy rain and strong winds caused ceiling leaks and rainwater intrusion in several buildings at Seberang Jaya Hospital last night.

Penang Health director Dr Zulhizzam Abdullah said the situation led to rainwater overflowing and entering various sections of the facility.

"Most affected areas involved the hospital's older building blocks, though several newer buildings were also impacted," he said.

"This was an unforeseen incident due to torrential rain, gale-force winds and massive runoff.

"However, no patients were affected, and no adverse incidents were reported."

Dr Zulhizzam said the hospital's engineering and maintenance management department was taking immediate action to address the situation.

Video footage of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing healthcare personnel holding umbrellas indoors as water poured through leaking ceilings onto flooded corridors and floors.
