Carrot Top Awake, "Breathing on His Own" Amid Hospital Stay, Rep Says

Comedian Carrot Top Receiving "Care and Support" After Being Hospitalized In Las Vegas

Carrot Top's condition is improving.

As the comedian (real name Scott Thompson) continues to receive medical attention after being hospitalized in Las Vegas Sept. 18, his rep confirmed how he is doing.

"Scott remains hospitalized and under close medical care," the rep said in a statement to TMZ Sept. 20. "He is now awake, breathing on his own and continuing to improve, surrounded by his family and those closest to him."

His rep added that the 61-year-old has been joking around with the "medical staff caring for him" and that he has been reading the "many messages from fans" from over the last several days. 

Carrot Top, according to the rep, has been sent "stories from people about how his comedy helped them through difficult periods in their own lives," which in turn are helping him now.

"Hearing those stories and feeling that support has meant a great deal to him during his recovery," his rep shared. "Scott and his family remain deeply grateful for the extraordinary kindness and continue to ask that his privacy be respected."

The Luxor Hotel and Casino, where Carrot Top has hosted his nightly comedy special since 2005, had expressed well-wishes for the Dennis The Menace Strikes Again actor.

“Scott is a beloved member of the Luxor and MGM Resorts family, and we are relieved to hear that he is recovering,” the Luxor Hotel and Casino told KLAS on Sept. 19. “We are thinking of him and wish him strength as he receives the care and support he needs.”

Carrot Top’s Sept. 18 through Sept. 22 shows were canceled after his hospitalization, the resort confirmed to the outlet. His next scheduled show is Sept. 23, according to the Luxor Hotel and Casino’s website.

The Chairman of The Board star had previously detailed his relationship to the comedy medium. 

“I think you learn the craft a little bit more, you get a little more confident,” he shared on the Whiskey Ginger podcast in 2023. “I love writing. I love trying new jokes every night. I'll try five or six things even if they eat s--t, I do them and my crew always knows—they love that part of it.”

In fact, “I hate when comics just do the same s--t forever don't try to be creative,” he continued. “Eating it is part of growing as a comic.”
