Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Thursday that authorities are looking into the possible involvement of Thomas Markle Jr. in alleged child sexual abuse activities linked to his father, Thomas Markle Sr.
Thomas Markle Sr. is the biological father of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex
Remulla said Markle Jr., 60 years old, is now considered a person of interest (POI) in the investigation following information provided by witnesses.
“We are determining if the son is involved kasi may witness kami na (because we have witnesses saying) underage girls are being brought to his house and we are following it up,” Remulla said in ambush interview.
“There are signs that point that the son is involved in the crime as well but only as a person of interest so far, hindi pa siya (he is not yet) treated as suspect,” he added.
Ring lights were reportedly seen in his house but Markle Jr. told authorities that he was making TikTok videos, the DILG chief said.
However, investigators found no underage girls appearing in his TikTok account.
Remulla said authorities are expected to determine within the following week whether Markle Jr. had any involvement in the alleged crimes.
Markle Jr. remains in Cebu, according to Remulla.
Meanwhile, authorities recovered around 7,500 photographs and one video showing underage boys and girls of Asian, Latina, and European descent from devices linked to Markle Sr., 82 years old.
Some of the minors in the recovered materials appeared to be Filipino, according to Remulla.
The materials included videos depicting children aged 10 to 11 engaging in sexual acts with adult men.
“They presented it to me but I didn’t want to look because I can’t see it. It is the most deplorable display of impunity towards sexual activity that I have ever seen and it is really, really distributing,” he said. — RSJ, GMA News
