ALOR GAJAH, Oct 22 — Barisan Nasional (BN) will contest 21 seats while PAS and its allies will contest seven in next month’s Melaka state election, following the finalisation of negotiations between the parties.

BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition would use its own logo in the election, while the decision on the logo to be used by PAS and its allies would be left to their leadership.

“BN will contest using the BN logo. It is up to their (PAS and its allies’) leadership to decide,” he told reporters after attending the ‘Melaka Bermunajat: Ratib Al-Attas and Asmaulhusna’ programme at Masjid Salmah Khamis in Masjid Tanah here last night.

Ahmad Zahid said BN would announce its candidates for the Melaka polls this Saturday.

The Election Commission (EC) has set polling day for the Melaka state election on Nov 14, with nomination day on Oct 31 and early voting on Nov 10.

In the 2021 Melaka state election, BN won 21 of the 28 state seats contested, enabling the coalition to form the state government. Pakatan Harapan (PH) won five seats, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) secured two. — Bernama
