Carissa’s Wierd Announce Somewhere Further Than Far, Their First New Album in 25 Years

Influential indie rock band Carissa’s Wierd have announced their first new album in 25 years, Somewhere Further Than Far, out January 8th, 2027. As a preview, they have released a melancholy new song, “No One Lives Here Anymore.” Stream it below.

Marking founding duo Mat Brooke and Jenn Champion’s first full-length since 2002’s Songs About Leaving, the album was inspired by a new generation of fans drawn to a handful of recent Carissa’s Wierd shows. Brooke and Champion went back to their roots during the winter months of 2026, sending each other songs recorded in their bedrooms before convening at Seattle’s The Hall of Justice Studio in May to spend five days recording the violin and drums, and mixing the album. “We never stopped writing music, but when we make Carissa’s Wierd, we are writing just for each other,” Brooke shared in a statement, adding that he took inspiration from old journals and photo albums. “I’ll write a song and hope Jenn thinks it’s good and wants to play on it.” Champion added, “Same, I just want Mat to think what I’m writing is cool. Carissa’s Wierd brings something out in my playing that I can’t do anywhere else.”

Focus track “No One Lives Here Anymore” addresses “nostalgia for a past that doesn’t exist anymore,” Brooke explained. It is built around Brooke and Champion’s harmonizing vocals, with a violin stitching the track together. “I know there’s a lot of time left/ And there always is,” they sing. “I won’t take anymore/ I’ll just wait ’til tomorrow.”

Since Carissa’s Wierd disbanded in 2003, Brooke and former member Ben Bridwell formed Band of Horses, while Champion has performed under her solo moniker S.
