Indonesia to start Mecca Hajj Village construction in December

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s investment body Danantara is scheduled to begin construction on its flagship Hajj Village project in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, this coming December, following a strategic land acquisition finalized in October.
Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani stated that he had briefed President Prabowo Subianto on the progress of preparations during a limited cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta onTuesday.
"I provided an update regarding the development in Saudi Arabia. The architects are scheduled to visit Indonesia to present a comprehensive plan, as the goal is to hold a groundbreaking ceremony—or begin construction—in December," Rosan, who also serves as the Investment and Downstreaming Minister, said.
The initiative aims to strengthen the ecosystem for Hajj and Umrah services, specifically tailored for pilgrims traveling from Indonesia.
The project follows the announcement by Danantara Indonesia—via its investment holding arm, PT Danantara Investment Management (DIM)—that it completed the acquisition of a 4.4-hectare plot of land in the Thakher Makkah district on October 18, 2026.
The acquisition builds upon Danantara's earlier takeover of the operational Novotel Thakher Makkah, comprising 1,461 rooms and suites, which was handed over on August 11, 2026.
Development of the Hajj Village will be carried out in phases in collaboration with Al-Khomasiah, a local development partner that facilitated the transaction and supports Danantara Indonesia’s presence in Saudi Arabia.
Danantara confirmed that all feasibility studies, necessary approvals, and required permitting documentation for the land will be prepared and submitted in accordance with each stage of the development process.
