1. Olifants
Olifants is probably the standout if dramatic scenery is what you’re after.
The camp sits on a hill high above the Olifants River, with lookout points overlooking the river and surrounding landscape. SANParks describes it as an “unforgettable window of Africa”.
2. Lower Sabie
Lower Sabie combines two classic Kruger views: a river in the foreground and the Lebombo Mountains beyond it. The camp sits directly on the Sabie River, making it particularly attractive for visitors who want to combine scenery with wildlife viewing.
3. Letaba
Letaba is positioned on a sweeping bend of the Letaba River. The river and surrounding greenery provide a striking contrast to the drier bushveld, while the area is also particularly good for elephant viewing.
4. Mopani
Mopani overlooks Pioneer Dam and is surrounded by mopane-covered koppies. The dam provides an additional attraction, with animals and waterbirds often gathering around the water.
5. Skukuza
Skukuza may be Kruger’s biggest and busiest camp, but its setting along the Sabie River gives it a particularly attractive side. Lush vegetation and tall trees line the river’s edge.
6. Berg-en-Dal
Berg-en-Dal is the choice for something different. SANParks describes it as the only camp set in a rugged mountain environment, with a landscape quite different from the river views at camps such as Lower Sabie and Olifants.
7. Biyamiti
For a quieter bush setting, Biyamiti is worth a look. The small bushveld camp sits on the banks of the Mbiyamiti River, surrounded by large wild fig and jackalberry trees.
8. Talamati
Talamati offers a different kind of scenery, with the camp positioned in a large open valley. The surrounding grassland attracts herds of grazing animals, while the open landscape also creates good opportunities for game viewing.
9. Shimuwini
Shimuwini is a good choice for visitors who like river scenery but want a quieter setting. The bushveld camp is associated with the Letaba River and its large riverine trees, including enormous baobabs.
10. Sirheni
Sirheni, in the north of Kruger National Park, is another option for a more secluded bush experience. It is one of Kruger’s smaller bushveld camps and is close to the Pafuri area, making it particularly appealing to visitors who want scenery, tranquillity and a different side of the park.
