Balogun omitted from Monaco Conference League squad after failed Everton transfer

USA striker Folarin Balogun has been omitted from Monaco’s UEFA Conference League squad after his proposed transfer to Premier League side Everton fell through on deadline day.

Balogun is also set to miss the Ligue 1 match at Paris Saint-Germain on Friday after being omitted from the travelling group.

Monaco said, however, that Balogun was back in group training. He is yet to feature in any of the side’s games so far this season.

The American striker was close to joining Everton for a reported 40 million pounds ($54 million) on Tuesday, but opted to pull out of the transfer after feeling uncomfortable that the English club raised doubts about his health after a medical examination, accorinding to Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro.

Monaco is under pressure to sell Balogun, or another of its top players, to generate money and comply with the French league’s financial rules.

Scuro said it was still possible that Monaco would sell the New York-born striker to a league where the transfer window remains open. One possible destination could be the Saudi Pro League, where the window closes on October 12.

Monaco begins the league phase of the Conference League on October 15.
