CCTV footage surfaces of the attack

The CCTV footage capturing the stray dog attack shows the victim being dragged in the street.

The footage, which surfaced on social media, showed the date and time stamp of August 20, 2026, at around 7:15 pm.

The girl was in a lane outside her house when the dog charged at her, knocking her down and biting her multiple times as she screamed and cried.

Alerted by her screams, nearby residents rushed to her rescue and chased the dog away. The girl was taken to the hospital after sustaining deep wounds to her head, back, and wrists.

In a separate incident, a sanitation worker was also previously attacked by a stray dog in the same neighbourhood.

Authorities take action

The local representative for Ward 63, Kishan Prajapati, stated that he visited the site of the attack and called a municipal corporation team to capture the dog.

Officials from the Kota Municipal Corporation (KMC) stated that measures are being taken to address the stray dog issue, including the construction of a shelter for strays.

KMC commissioner OP Mehra assured that measures are underway to address the stray dog issue in the city.

"Under the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program, dogs captured upon complaints are taken to the ABC centre for sterilisation and returned to the same locality after 3-4 days, strictly following Supreme Court guidelines," Mehra said.

The commissioner added that currently, there is no permanent shelter available for aggressive dogs from the streets.

However, a dedicated dog shelter is under construction in the Banda Dharampura area to manage aggressive dogs effectively, the official added. This will permanently house aggressive stray dogs that pose a threat even after sterilisation.

Expected to be completed within seven to eight months, the facility will have the capacity to house 600 to 700 animals.

Meanwhile, the residents are demanding immediate intervention.
