Springbok team to face All Blacks in Cape Town attended these SCHOOLS

Pieter-Steph du Toit is on the verge of joining an elite group of Springboks when South Africa face New Zealand in Cape Town on Saturday, 29 August.

The utility forward is set to earn his 100th Test cap, becoming only the 11th player in Springbok history to reach the milestone.

Meanwhile, prop Ox Nche is also in line to celebrate a major career achievement, with the front-rower set to earn his 50th Test cap at the Cape Town Stadium.

The milestones will add extra significance to a match in which the Springboks are desperate to respond after suffering a record 33-16 defeat to the All Blacks in Johannesburg last Saturday.

Leading South African bookmakers Sportingbet have installed the Springboks as 1.40 favourites to level the four-Test series, while the All Blacks can be backed at 3.00.

The draw after 80 minutes is on offer at 16.50.

In terms of handicap, Sportingbet believe South Africa are 5.5-point favourites.

Siya Kolisi could return

Coach Rassie Erasmus has largely retained the team that featured in the opening Test, although there are several changes to the starting XV and replacements.

Siya Kolisi has been bracketed with Paul de Villiers at flank and will need to come through training before being confirmed in the starting line-up.

If cleared, Kolisi will join Du Toit and Jasper Wiese in the loose trio.

Handre Pollard will start at flyhalf alongside Cobus Reinach at scrumhalf, while Ethan Hooker comes into the backline after Cheslin Kolbe suffered a niggle.

Hooker’s inclusion will see Kurt-Lee Arendse switch to the right wing, with Damian Willemse completing the back three.

Du Toit will captain the Springboks on his landmark appearance.

Should Kolisi take his place in the starting XV, South Africa will field their most experienced starting team ever, with a combined 1 012 Test caps.

Deon Fourie returns

The replacements also feature a notable change, with veteran Deon Fourie included at the age of 39.

Fourie will provide front-row cover alongside Gerhard Steenekamp and Thomas du Toit, while Lood de Jager and Cameron Hanekom provide further forward options.

Andre Esterhuizen, Morne van den Berg and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu complete the bench.

Fourie is the only player in the matchday squad who did not feature in South Africa’s last two Tests against Argentina and New Zealand.

His most recent appearance for the Springboks came in the 2023 Rugby World Cup final.
