Akanji: Inter Must Avoid Slow Start Against AC Milan

Translate

Manuel Akanji has warned Inter Milan that they cannot afford another slow start when they face city rivals AC Milan in Saturday’s Derby della Madonnina.

The two teams head into the highly anticipated encounter in contrasting form.

AC Milan suffered a disappointing 4-2 home defeat to Bologna earlier this week, their first loss of the Serie A season.

Inter, meanwhile, remain unbeaten and sit at the top of the standings alongside Lazio.

However, despite their impressive run, the Nerazzurri have developed a habit of starting games slowly, often conceding the opening goal before fighting their way back into contention.

Christian Chivu’s men have already collected 13 points from losing positions in Serie A this season, highlighting their ability to respond to setbacks.

Akanji Issues Warning Ahead Of Derby

Akanji admitted that Inter must address their defensive lapses ahead of the Milan clash, insisting that they cannot afford to give their opponents easy opportunities.

“It’s not easy to give an explanation. It’s not that we start badly, but sometimes we make mistakes and concede goals. We can’t afford to do that, especially against the big teams,” Akanji said in an interview with Sky Sport Italia.

“Sometimes you might get away with it, especially if the opponents don’t convert the chances they create.

“We know that we can’t start like that against Milan, we can’t give away easy goals. They will have to work hard to score.”

Inter Looking To End Unwanted Derby Run

Inter will also be determined to end their disappointing recent record against their city rivals.

The Nerazzurri have failed to win any of their last seven meetings with AC Milan, suffering five defeats and recording two draws since their last derby victory in April 2024.

With Milan looking to bounce back from their midweek disappointment and Inter eager to maintain their unbeaten run, Saturday’s encounter promises to be another fiercely contested battle.
