Emma Stone Joins Druski During His ‘SNL’ Hosting Debut

Druski made his Saturday Night Live debut with an assist from his upcoming co-star Emma Stone.

He kicked off his first-ever monologue by acknowledging that his appearance marked the first time an online content creator will host the show.

“It is a dream to be hosting Saturday Night Live. Apparently, people are saying I’m the first internet content creator, social media influencer, only make you laugh on your phone, TikTok and YouTube and Instagram star to host this show,” he said. “Woo. People say a lot of things about me, honestly.”

“Some people say I look like a lesbian. I don’t know how true that is,” Druski joked. “Some people say I’m on Ozempic. Could be lies, could be truth to that.”

Druski, whose real name is Drew Desbordes, admitted that SNL would not be “holding me back from saying anything.” He said there were only a few rules to follow: No cussing and no whiteface, which he both joked he couldn’t promise to.

“But honestly, this is a huge moment for me growing up as a fat kid from the suburbs. Why y’all laughing? My teachers never believed in me, so I just wanna say… Yeah, I’m just lying. I just wanted to say that because rappers be saying that type of stuff,” he joked, before thanking his family, who was in the audience, for supporting his dreams.

“I’m so grateful. When I first started my career, I let them, let me turn my dreams into a full-blown movie convention. Every day I think about how could I possibly repay y’all,” he began, as one of his family members offered, “Some money!”

The comedian recounted the growth his career has seen in recent years, noting, “I am living proof you can bet on yourself and make your dreams come true.” He added, “I just finished filming my first ever movie with Emma Stone, and she is here right now!” The Oscar winner then entered the stage, and the two recounted their time working on The Catch together.

“Emma, what’s going on? I’m actually playing her love interest in the new movie that we just did,” he said. Stone responded, “Oh, I’m sorry. OK, yeah. I think you might have misread that in those scenes because we weren’t love interests in the film, but now it is actually starting to make more sense to me why you kept looking at me like that through all these scenes.”

Druski and Stone are set to appear in Universal Pictures’ rom-com The Catch, which will be directed by Dave McCary, Stone’s husband who was also as a segment director on SNL in the 2010s.

His hosting appearance is historic in itself, as Druski becomes the first creator to ever host SNL. He was joined by The Strokes as the night’s musical guest.

He got his beginning in the industry via his online presence, where he built a name for himself performing sketches online. Druski has since expanded his career into television (Grown-ish) and film (House Party), and hosted the BET Awards this June. On Monday, it was announced Druski signed a multi-year deal with Netflix, which will first see him star in the “semi-scripted” comedy series Collect & Praise.

Jalen Brunson, Dakota Johnson, Shane Gillis and Inde Navarrette have already hosted season 51. Next up, John Mulaney will host the Nov. 14 episode alongside Phoebe Bridgers.
