Brenda Blethyn and Danny Dyer's forgotten British thriller is streaming for free

If you're looking for a crime drama that you can munch some popcorn through one evening, Dead Man Running is available to watch for free on Tubi. The 2009 British thriller stars the unlikely duo of Rivals' Danny Dyer and Vera star Brenda Blethyn.

Written and directed by The Calcium Kid's Alex De Rakoff, Dead Man Running reunites Dyer with his Football Factory co-star Tamer Hassan.

The cast also includes Top Boy's Ashley Walters, Omid Djalili, and rapper 50 Cent as the film's antagonist, a drug lord who comes to collect a debt from Hassan's Nick and takes his disabled mother hostage.

Dead Man Running was mostly panned by critics, who described it as a cheap imitation of Guy Ritchie's best work.

The Times wrote: "Dead Man Running feels like something cobbled together after a cynical producer saw Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and decided to cash in. Except it is ten years too late."

Empire wrote that the film has a "quality cast" but added: "We've run round this track too many times, while the script jogs from scene to scene without any surprises."

While Metro singled out Blethyn's performance, writing: "The scenes between Blethyn and Davis could be a film in themselves: Blethyn's pitch-perfect performance being this clock-ticker's one outstanding element."

Over on IMDB, viewers were much more forgiving, with one calling it "perfect" and writing: "If you like the British gangster type films then this is the film for you, very funny and entertaining all way through, nothing dragged or was boring at all."

Another wrote: "Surprisingly good, well casted, good plot and fast paced. Well worth the watch."

While a third viewer added: "Lighter in tone than most British gangster type thrillers, there are some real giggles to be had in this. Helps that the acting is a cut above too, and there seems to be real chemistry between the two leads Tamar Hussain and Danny Dyer."
