CoD MW4 prestige system explained: How to prestige

CoD MW4 makes a pretty sweeping change to its prestige system, offering two different tracks to prestige with shared progression across multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone.
It can be hard to distinguish the actual differences between these two paths, but simply put, one follows a more traditional Call of Duty prestige system and the other removes a lot of the more punishing aspects of prestiging. Here is the difference between the two paths and how you can prestige in-game.
To Prestige in CoD MW4, you need to click on your profile and level in the top left corner of the screen to enter the progression menu. From there, you can scroll to the Prestige menu tab and Prestige once you have hit the max level.

On top of the more traditional 10 Prestiges, MW4 brings back Prestige Master with its own set of rewards and levels once you have reached max prestige.

What is the difference between Classic Prestige and Regular Prestige?
MW4 introduces two different types of Prestige options. One is the Classic Prestige and the other is Regular Prestige.
The Classic Prestige is the traditional Call of Duty Prestige system, where you reset back to level 1, have to re-earn everything in the create-a-class, but gain a 20% XP boost, permanent unlock token, and some unique rewards.
Meanwhile, the Regular Prestige, removes the need to unlock all the create-a-class items and weapons, but still resets you to level 1. You also don't get all the prestige rewards or an XP boost.
Therefore, you will be missing out on some items and exclusive rewards, and as you can't reset your entire level back to no prestige, level 1, these will become unobtainable. Therefore, it is always worth choosing the classic prestige system to get everything, and the grind becomes less challenging as you go and your XP is boosted.
