Translate

SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur — The largest waterfall in the Ilocos region reopened to the public on Saturday, Aug. 22, following improved weather conditions and reduced disaster risks in the area.

The reopening of Pinsal Falls in Barangay Babal-lasioan, Santa Maria town in this province, was ordered by Municipal Mayor Michael Florendo, who chairs the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC).

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) deactivated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and the Disaster Operations and Response Management System (DORMS) on Friday, Aug. 21, indicating that conditions had improved sufficiently for the popular tourist destination to resume operations.

Municipal authorities, however, reminded visitors to observe safety measures while at the falls.

Tourists availing themselves of boating activities are required to wear life vests. Authorities said boating without a life vest will not be allowed.

Visitors are also prohibited from hiking to the upper portion of Pinsal Falls as part of measures to prevent accidents.

Tourists were urged to follow instructions from personnel of the municipal tourism office and members of the local boatmen’s association while visiting the attraction.

Authorities said the safety guidelines are intended to allow visitors to enjoy Pinsal Falls while minimizing risks, particularly as weather conditions can change. /mcm
