Habagat to persist over Luzon on Sunday (August 23)

MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” will continue to bring rains all over Luzon on Sunday, the state weather bureau reported.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) 5 a.m. bulletin, the southwest monsoon will bring “occasional rains” over Batanes.
Pagasa also warned of scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the monsoon in Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

In the following days, Pagasa said the southwest monsoon may be strengthened by Typhoon Saudel.
“Inaasahan na once pumasok ng PAR ang bagyong Saudel, magpapalakas ito ng habagat,” Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina stated.
(t is expected that once typhoon Saudel enters PAR, it will strengthen the southwest monsoon.)
Saudel, last located 2,245 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon, outside of the Philippine Area of Responsibility, has a “high” chance of entering on Monday. /apl
