Kinpo prepares to start up module volume production

Kinpo Electronics Inc (金寶電子) yesterday said it aims to start volume production of power modules for conventional servers, enterprise-level power supplies and communication power modules as well as expand production of standalone and drawer-type power modules for artificial intelligence (AI) servers next quarter.

The company plans to enter mass production of second-generation charging pile products next quarter, which it codeveloped with subsidiary AcBel Polytech Inc (康舒科技), Kinpo chief technology officer Andy Lee (李盛宏) said at an earnings conference in Taipei.

The two companies plan to develop additional AC and DC charging stations next year, with different designs and power ratings, Lee said.

Kinpo aims to increase the number of room-temperature qubit control system prototypes for quantum computers next year after completing a first-generation single-unit qubit control-system prototype in the first half, Lee said.

The company plans to begin hardware and software validation as early as next month, followed by integration tests with an ultralow-temperature system, he said.

In the second half of next year, the company aims to expand the system into a rack-level architecture and expects to complete prototype architecture validation by late next year or 2028, he added.

The moves underscore Kinpo’s efforts to accelerate the deployment of AI and high value-added products to expand business scope and increase revenue, the company said.

Kinpo’s revenue in the first half of this year fell 5.41 percent year-on-year to NT$75.06 billion (US$2.36 billion), weighed down by wearable electronics customers’ seasonal marketing strategies and softer end-market sales, chief financial officer Megi Yu (游千慧) said.

In the first half, consumer electronics accounted for 33.84 percent of the company’s revenue, followed by imaging products at 27.48 percent, storage devices at 25.01 percent, network communication products at 12.43 percent and other products at 1.24 percent, Yu said.

Net profit was NT$1.05 billion, up 27.7 percent year-on-year, while earnings per share rose to NT$0.70 from NT$0.55 and gross margin advanced to 6.88 percent from 6.45 percent a year earlier.

The increase in net profit and gross margin despite lower revenue reflected the company’s continued investment in higher-value-added businesses, Yu said.

Outside Taiwan, the company operates 16 plants in Thailand, an important investment region for the company, Kinpo president Andrew Chen (陳威昌) said.

The company also has manufacturing facilities in the Philippines, Mexico and Brazil, he said.
