KUCHING, Oct 28 — A total of 7,469 police officers and personnel will be deployed to maintain public order and security during Sarawak’s 13th state election.

Acting Sarawak Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak said the state police contingent was still short of 889 personnel and would require reinforcements from other contingents.

“We have submitted a formal request to Bukit Aman for additional personnel from other contingents, with Sabah among those likely to assist,” he told a press conference at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters here today.

Saifullizan said preliminary preparations were under way, including manpower arrangements to ensure smooth operations throughout the election.

He said logistical requirements were also being addressed to maintain security and public order during the electoral process.

On October 23, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg announced the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly, effective October 26, to pave the way for the state election.

The Election Commission (EC) will hold a special meeting on Nov 6 to determine key election dates and discuss related matters. — Bernama
