Christina Applegate Gives Update After Multiple Sclerosis Misdiagnoses: ‘I’ll Never Leave This Community’

The actress said that she is back to "square one" and undergoing medical testing

Christina Applegate shared an update following the news that she had been misdiagnosed with multiple sclerosis, five years after doctors told her she had the autoimmune disorder.

When speaking on the latest episode of MeSsy, her MS-themed podcast she hosts with Jamie Lynn Sigler, Applegate said that doctors are reevaluating the root of her symptoms.

“We’re going into square one, just doing some testing and going one by one of kind of the sister diseases to MS,” Applegate told guest Jack Osbourne, who has MS. “You’ve got RA [rheumatoid arthritis], and you’ve got lupus and Lyme disease and all these things that kind of can mimic MS,” Applegate said when discussing the medical testing she’s undergoing. “So, now I’m being tested for all that stuff, slowly but surely.”

The actress joked, “Talk about being a fraud. I don’t even have it anymore. Geez,” before emphasizing her dedication to the MS community: “I’ll never leave this community. We made so many lifelong friends, and I care so deeply about everybody that we represent and I represent. I’m still always going to be a part of it in one way or another.”

When announcing the news last month, Applegate said that she was in a “state of shock” over the misdiagnoses, which she called a “mindfuck” as she still has symptoms, but doctors no longer have an explanation. “It’s this weird feeling because I became this — you [Sigler] and I, the poster children for MS,” she said. “And everything I was doing. I had a reason. I had a fucking reason as to why my day sucked every day. And now I don’t have a reason and it’s very unnerving and it’s very confusing for me.”

A week later, she said that she was still a “warrior” for people with multiple sclerosis. “I’m still going to speak out on your behalf forever and ever. I still feel like pat of this community. No matter what, I love you.”
