[UPDATED] Prisons Department awaiting official written notice on Najib's conditional pardon

KUALA LUMPUR: The Prisons Department is awaiting official written notification regarding the conditional pardon decision for Datuk Seri Najib Razak before determining further action to execute the order.

In a statement today, the department said any official notification and documents about the Pardons Board's decision would be transmitted through the appropriate official channels.

"The Prisons Department is always prepared to execute any official instructions received from the relevant authorities.

"This is in accordance with legal provisions, prison regulations, and existing standard operating procedures.

"In line with the statement by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail on Sept 19, the Home Ministry and the Prisons Department are still awaiting official written notification on the decision before any further action can be determined," it said.

The department added that it would carry out any decisions and instructions received in an orderly, professional, and transparent manner, adhering to legal provisions and directives.

"The Prisons Department urges all parties to refer to official sources and refrain from speculating on the implementation of the decision," it added.

Last Friday, Sultan Ibrahim granted a conditional pardon to Najib to serve his remaining sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the RM50 million fine.

Under the conditional pardon, Najib must comply with all specified terms. Failure to do so will result in the pardon being revoked, requiring him to serve out the remainder of his sentence in prison.
