Javier Bardem to Be Honored by Rome Film Festival With Lifetime Achievement Award

Javier Bardem will be honored with a lifetime achievement award by the Rome Film Festival where the Oscar-winning actor will present a screening of Spanish director Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s “The Beloved” (“El ser querido”) that is being showcased in the event’s best of the fests section.

In “The Beloved,” which world-premiered at Cannes, Bardem plays an acclaimed film director named
Esteban Martinez with a past steeped in violence and excess who, after years of estrangement, reunites with his daughter, who is a struggling actress, to make a movie together. They are forced to confront a troubled past neither of them had wanted to face.

Bardem was recently at the Venice Film Festival with Florian Zeller’s “Bunker” in which he and his wife Penelope Cruz star as a husband and wife whose 17-year marriage begins to unravel after Bardem’s character, an architect, agrees to build a survivalist bunker for a tech billionaire.

Bardem will receive the Rome award from Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino (“The Great Beauty”).

The Rome Film Festival prize for Bardem was announced in a statement by Salvatore Nastasi, president of the Fondazione Cinema per Roma that oversees the event of which Paola Malanga is artistic director.

Besides “The Beloved” and “Bunker,” Bardem will soon be back on screen as Stilgar, the leader of a tribe that helps Chalamet’s character Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Three,” He also recently wrapped up production on Amazon MGM Studios’ “Hello & Paris” opposite Kate Hudson.
