PKR leader urges Rauf to give update on 55 Melaka projects

A PKR leader has urged Melaka chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh to provide an update on the status of 55 projects that had yet to commence construction as of June last year.

PKR deputy secretary-general G Sivamalar asked whether these projects had progressed over the past 17 months, saying Rauf should issue the update before seeking a new mandate from voters.

She called for the state government to list all 55 projects as well as their locations, value, implementing agency, original project schedule and latest targeted completion date.

“The people deserve to know what projects have been completed and which ones are delayed, and why.

“These 55 projects could comprise public facilities long awaited by residents, infrastructure desperately needed by local communities, and developments meant to benefit the people of Melaka,” she said in a statement.

Sivamalar said it was crucial that the Barisan Nasional (BN) state government exercise prudence and responsibility in managing public finances by ensuring that development allocations yield results felt by the people.

“Before BN seeks another five-year mandate from the people, Rauf’s administration needs to openly prove its record of achievements.

“The people deserve to evaluate BN based on the results, not just project announcements, allocation figures or political promises,” she added.

In June 2025, Rauf said 22.18% of the state’s RM88 million development allocation for that year had been spent.

The chief minister said this covered expenditure on 241 projects, including 86 that were completed and 100 that were still in progress. Another 55 had yet to commence at the time.

BN said that Rauf would continue serving as chief minister should the coalition form the state government again.
