KUALA LUMPUR — A Renault Captur sports utility vehicle (SUV) was completely destroyed by fire after colliding with a car on the Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway (SPE) heading towards Mid Valley today.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Control Centre received an emergency call via the MERS999 line at 12.37pm. In response, Operations Commander Senior Fire Officer I Muhammad Amirudin Mohd Hassan led a team of nine personnel from the Hang Tuah Fire and Rescue Station to the scene, deploying one Fire Rescue Tender and two Rapid Intervention Motorcycle units.

Initial investigations revealed that the SUV crashed into the rear of a Honda City, triggering a blaze that engulfed the vehicle. Firefighters launched a prompt operation, bringing the fire under control and completely extinguishing it by 1.21pm.

The fire department confirmed that there were no injuries or fatalities reported in the accident. Authorities are currently conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the fire.
