Indonesia sends new police contingent to UN mission in Central Africa

Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police on Friday inducted 150 personnel joining the newest batch Garuda Bhayangkara contingent for the United Nations stabilization mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko, head of the National Police International Relations Division, stated that the induction signifies the officers' readiness for deployment in the 8th Formed Police Unit (FPU) under MINUSCA.

"The 150 personnel comprise 124 male and 26 female officers who participated in the ceremony," Widyatmoko said in a statement on Friday.

The ceremony on Parangtritis Beach, Yogyakarta, concluded pre-deployment drills conducted in Bantul and Gunungkidul districts from September 6 to 11, 2026.

Widyatmoko explained that training in Bantul and Gunungkidul was chosen to build the capability, stamina, and cohesion required for the mission.

The locations feature terrain matching deployment conditions in the Central African Republic, ensuring mental, physical, and tactical readiness, he said.

The unit will serve on UN peacekeeping duty in the Central African Republic for 12 to 14 months.

"They will be deployed in Bangui within UN deployment areas," Widyatmoko added.

With the personnel prepared for African deployment, Widyatmoko expressed confidence that the unit will perform its duties properly and strengthen Indonesia's role in global peace.
