Creative economy seen as strengthening halal industry value chain

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency is encouraging creative economy to play a greater role in strengthening halal industry ecosystem by developing value-added products that are competitive in global markets.

Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency Teuku Riefky Harsya said strengthening the halal economy was closely linked to the development of the creative economy, particularly in creating products that not only meet consumer needs but also have distinctive identities and added value.

"We believe halal certification is not only related to religious aspects, but also concerns health and lifestyle issues," Harsya said in a statement received here on Saturday.

"Many creative industry players have opportunities to enter global markets through Indonesia's halal certification, which has gained international credibility," he added.

He said halal certification could serve as an instrument to strengthen the competitiveness of creative economy products as they enter global markets.

Under this approach, creative economy players would not only serve as part of the halal industry's supply chain but could also produce value-added products by leveraging identity, creativity, and innovation.

These opportunities are becoming more promising amid the large size of the global halal economy market.

At the H20 2026 forum, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Datu’ Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Muslim consumer spending across six key sectors of the Islamic economy reached around $2.6 trillion in 2024 and was projected to rise to $3.56 trillion by 2029.

The halal food sector was the largest contributor, with spending exceeding $1.33 trillion in 2024.

However, the potential of the halal market extends beyond food products to include pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, tourism, logistics, technology, and finance.

The broad scope of the halal industry provides opportunities for creative economy players to enter various segments of the halal industry value chain while developing value-added products and services.

Meanwhile, stronger halal certification and mutual recognition of halal standards among countries are also considered capable of helping businesses expand access to international markets.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Pratikno said mutual recognition of halal certificates among countries could reduce repetitive processes and make supply chains more efficient, while also creating clearer pathways for small producers to enter international markets.

For the creative economy, this situation could provide opportunities to scale up businesses and bring Indonesia's creativity-based products to wider markets.

The Ministry of Creative Economy considers stronger linkages between the creative economy and the halal industry an important part of building an inclusive, transparent, and sustainable halal ecosystem.
