Future OG Slow Horses Character Returns After Olivia Cooke's Sid Addressed By Star

EXCLUSIVE: Could other original characters from Slow Horses return?
One star from the spy thriller TV show has addressed the possibility of future original characters coming back into the fold after Olivia Cooke returned as Sid in the latest season. Cooke returned as Sid in Slow Horses season 6, episode 2, after having been presumed dead after the show's first season. She's become an integral part of the plot for season 6, initially helping River escape a group of assassins that are trying to kill the show's titular operatives. Her return was a major surprise development, while questioning whether other characters may come back too.
In an interview with ScreenRant's Tatiana Hullender, series star Christopher Chung, who plays Roddy Ho, opened up about the possibility of Slow Horses featuring more character returns after Cooke's Sid. The actor stated that it's unclear, considering Sid doesn't return in Mick Herron's Slough House novel series off of which the show is based. However, Chung stated that he'd be open to seeing other characters come back, specifically naming Ingrid Tearney (Sophie Okonedo) and Claude Whelan (James Callis).
Check out what Chung had to say below:
ScreenRant: We got to bring back Olivia Cooke as Sid this season, which is awesome. Is there anyone else you'd like to see make a return?
Christopher Chung: I don't know if this is in the cards because she doesn't come back in the books, but I think there are other characters that don't necessarily come back in the books that have been in the show! I'd love to see Sophie Okonedo come back as Ingrid Tearney in some some way, or James Callis as Claude Whelan. He's so phenomenal and just so fun to watch, so I'd love to see him come back too. It's all the the Park people. They're great characters.
Chung's suggestions for returning characters to Slow Horses are figures who, unlike Sid, aren't dead. Ingrid Tearney appeared in seasons 1 and 3, the original Director General of MI5 and someone who had important roles to play in both the central investigations of those respective seasons. As for Claude Whelan, he took Ingrid's title in seasons 4 and 5, having shown himself to be in over his head with his new position. Both characters haven't shown up in season 6, and there doesn't appear to be plans for them to appear in the future as of writing.
However, Sid's arrival is a surprise that opens the door for pretty much anything, given she was thought to have been dead for multiple seasons prior to her return. So far, it's the only major deviation from the books in terms of bringing a dead character back to life. But it will seemingly have an important part to play in season 6 as the mystery surrounding who's targeting the Slow Horses continues to unfold. Just how long she's back for remains to be seen, depending on how her story plays out.
But there's ample opportunity for the show to feature surprise returnees in the future. Slow Horses seasons 7 and 8 have been confirmed, with season 8 currently in production. While the show is continuing to pull from specific novels in Herron's series, that doesn't necessarily mean there won't be any changes to the cast as it progresses. Sid's return is already a major departure from the books, meaning any number of characters could easily make a surprise return going forward.
Since Slow Horses has already delivered a surprise return with Sid, though, it seems unlikely the show will procure another one so soon. Yet the door is now open, and as Chung states, it would be compelling to watch additional familiar faces make surprise returns at various points in the future. For now, though, all eyes are on Cooke's Sid, and what her return will mean for season 6 going forward.
