Grand Theft Auto 6 is the biggest game of the year, so understandable, it's selling like hotcakes at pretty much every retailer where it's available. At launch, it's a digital-only title, which has sparked a number of controversies but certainly hasn't stopped GTA 6 from breaking a few pre-order records. Despite that, though, it looks like at least one major retailer has sold out of the game ahead of its November release date.

Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to completely shatter sales records when it launches on November 19, 2026. Although some consumers have been outraged over the game being a digital-only launch, it seems like most folks simply want to play the game — and are cool with buying it however they can. Even though it's a digital-only game right now, Rockstar is selling copies of GTA 6 in physical form. However, the cases just come with a download code inside.

Over on the Grand Theft Auto 6 Reddit, a user named Light_Yagami72 posted a screenshot with the caption, "GTA 6 is currently sold out on Amazon." And sure enough, Amazon seems to have the listing as "Currently Unavailable," removing the option to preorder the newest Grand Theft Auto game from its online storefront. Considering it's a digital game, however, this has led to quite a bit of confusion (and quite a few jokes, too).

"Sorry, our digital stock ran out of digital codes," reads the top comment of the Reddit thread.

"The one sold on amazon is a box with code inside," notes one user. "If you are going to spend $80 on the digital code from xbox/ps store, might as well spend the same money to get a box along with it."

"They ran out of box I guess," reads one of the responses.

Granted, it is super strange that a digital game like Grand Theft Auto 6 has sold out, but when considering it's for the edition that comes inside a plastic case, it's at least understandable that those copies might be limited. Right now, there's no word on if this edition will be restocked on Amazon before GTA 6 releases in November.

Even if that's not the case, there's still the possibility that restocks will happen after the game has launched. In the meantime, if you're considering grabbing a physical edition (with a download code) of Grand Theft Auto 6, you might want to do it sooner rather than later. It sounds like copies are starting to sell out.
