Sugiono backs Arrmanatha to safeguard Indonesia’s foreign policy

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Foreign Minister for 2024-2026, Sugiono, expressed confidence that Arrmanatha C. Nasir would carry out his duties well as foreign minister, including overseeing Indonesia’s diplomacy and foreign policy.

Sugiono, who now serves as Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, made the statement during a visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Thursday.

“I am confident in and trust his capabilities. I am confident that he can also lead and safeguard the Foreign Ministry, as well as ensure that Indonesia’s diplomacy and foreign policy continue to advance,” Sugiono said.

Responding to Sugiono’s remarks, Foreign Minister Arrmanatha said Sugiono would always be welcomed at the Foreign Ministry, despite taking on a new mandate.

“He will always have a place at the Foreign Ministry. Wherever he goes, he will always remain in our hearts,” Arrmanatha said.

Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir has reaffirmed his commitment to continuing Indonesia’s foreign policy mandate in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directives, as previously carried out by his predecessor, Sugiono.

“Our mandate is based on the Constitution, and this has been carried out very well by Mr. Sugiono. Of course, we will continue what Mr. Sugiono has done very well, and we will also follow the directives of the President because, ultimately, the foreign policy mandate rests with the President,” he said at the Foreign Ministry, after his inauguration.

The minister said the Foreign Ministry had a clear constitutional mandate to implement Indonesia's foreign policy.

He said consistency in foreign policy from year to year was one of Indonesia's characteristics in conducting international relations.

"A country that has a stable foreign policy, one that remains stable from year to year, is a good country, and that is Indonesia," he said.

Arrmanatha said Indonesia would continue to play an active role in efforts to create a safer and more stable world, including through its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2029-2030 term.
