5 Coronation Street spoilers next week: Carl Webster accused of attacking Eva Price as Betsy Swain struggles

The walls are closing on one Weatherfield resident, as Eva Price’s (Catherine Tyldesley) attacker is finally revealed in an explosive week on Coronation Street.

The Rovers landlady was feeling under the weather, and after deciding to shut up shop for the day, heard a mysterious noise in the boozer’s cellar. Moments later, Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) found her unconscious at the bottom of the staircase.

The finger will be pointed at her wayward son Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard), but was he really responsible?

Elsewhere, Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) confides in Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) about her predicament, Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances Brown) continues to manipulate her family and Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) lands himself in hot water.

Plus, it's a big day for Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) as she returns to work following her strokes.

1. Eva Price's attacker revealed as Carl Webster is questioned

Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker) keeps vigil at Eva's hospital bedside after she was attacked and left fighting for her life, while Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) tries to piece together exactly what happened.

He questions Debbie and Carl about Eva's injuries, with Carl claiming that he helped Eva tidy up because she wasn't feeling well before heading home himself. But when Debbie announces that she plans to buy the patient some flowers, Carl produces a wallet stuffed with cash.

Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) and Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) are immediately suspicious, wondering whether Carl could have robbed the pub before accidentally pushing Eva down the stairs.

With doubts surrounding her son, Debbie is faced with a difficult question: can she really believe Carl's claims of innocence?

The police soon take Carl in for questioning over the attack. He insists that he had nothing to do with what happened to Eva, but the pressure begins to mount.

Carl later attempts to speak to Debbie about the situation, only to realise that she has no idea what he is talking about. Concerned by her reaction, he decides to keep his worries to himself.

Then, when someone overhears Ben telling Kevin that the police still have no idea who attacked Eva, the mystery finally takes a dramatic turn.

The truth about Eva's attacker comes to light when someone confesses to the crime. But who will take responsibility?

Once the identity of Eva's attacker is exposed, the revelation sends shockwaves through a family on the Street. As they struggle to face up to what they have done, it becomes clear that their actions have changed everything.

2. Lucy Parkinson sparks concern for the Metcalfes – and Christina Boyd pushes for information

A hungover Lucy Parkinson (Anya Dewin) apologises to Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) and promises that her behaviour won't happen again.

Later, he opens up to Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) over the garden fence about his concerns surrounding Richie Parkinson (Nathan Sussex). He reveals that his cousin previously tried to pressure him into telling the police that Rachel had been abusive towards him, but Tim refused.

Now, Tim fears Richie could be attempting to put Lucy under the same pressure. Little do they realise, Lucy is secretly listening in.

Following wife Sally's (Sally Dynevor) advice, Tim decides to discipline Lucy for her recent behaviour and grounds her for the rest of the week. Lucy is furious at the punishment.

Later, Tim takes Joanie Michaelis (Savanna Pennington) to the café, only to discover that £40 has mysteriously disappeared from his wallet. Could Lucy have taken the money?

Tim returns to his concerns about Richie and asks Lisa to look into what is happening with Lucy. Christina overhears their conversation and later attempts to get more information from Tim in the Rovers.

When Tim suggests that the situation may not be quite as straightforward as they initially believed, Todd takes notice. At the undertakers, Christina confides in him, leaving plenty to think about.

Sally and Lucy pop into the funeral parlour to arrange Rachel's plaque, Sally bringing along family photo albums. Christina quickly claims that another client is due any minute and ushers them out.

3. Jodie Ramsey purposely sabotages dad Doug's medication

When Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) announces that she is heading to work, Jodie offers to take over some of her household responsibilities to give her a break. Later, upon returning home, she's surprised to find David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) doing the washing-up while Jodie looks after Harper.

Jodie then claims she has a date and heads to the salon for a blow-dry. David finishes her hair and encourages her to go out and enjoy herself. But Jodie has another plan.

Pretending to receive a text, she puts on a convincing display of tears and claims that her date has cancelled. She then produces a bottle of fizz from her bag and persuades David to join her for a drink.

Later, she turns up carrying a huge bunch of flowers and claims they were sent to her by her date, much to Shona's admiration. However, Shona learns from Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) that Jodie actually bought the flowers herself.

David confirms that Jodie's date had already been cancelled while she was still at the salon. Things take a sinister turn when Jodie rummages through dad Doug's (Steve Evets) belongings and secretly swaps his anti-psychotic medication for ordinary painkillers.

Doug becomes increasingly suspicious, even eyeing the radio before eventually shoving it into a cupboard. David and Shona watch on with growing alarm as Jodie appears delighted to see Doug's paranoia returning.

When Doug anxiously says that he can hear static coming from the radio, Jodie turns up the volume while pretending she has no idea what he is talking about.

Meanwhile, Lily Platt (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner) confronts Shona and accuses her of always putting Harper before her. When the teen points out that Jodie always manages to make time for her, Shona is left feeling guilty.

4. Betsy Swain returns to work at Underworld

Betsy returns to work at the factory hoping to brush up on her skills ahead of her upcoming college interview. However, she struggles at the machine, prompting Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) to step in and offer her some help.

The following day, mum Lisa accompanies a nervous Betsy to her college interview. With this potentially marking the beginning of a new chapter for her, Betsy must find the confidence to take the next step.

5. Sam Blakeman gets his dad Nick Tilsley into debt

Hope Dobbs (Isabella Flanagan) becomes concerned by Sam's increasingly strange behaviour and confides in Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor).

They gently try to encourage Sam to open up about what is troubling him, but he refuses to explain what is going on. Eventually, the youngster breaks down and admits the shocking truth - he has been trading cryptocurrency using Nick's identity.

The full extent of the situation soon emerges. Sam reveals that he took out a credit card in Nick's name and has managed to rack up more than £6,000 of debt. Nick, Toyah and Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) are left reeling as he tearfully explains what he has done.

Nick admits that he will struggle to find a way to repay the £6,000 debt, unaware that Idris Nazir (Junade Khan) is listening closely to the conversation.
