Neelam Sirohi and Kajal Dhochak finished their campaigns at the Wrestling World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, with silver medals on Wednesday.
Japan’s Yui Susaki, who already had four World Championship titles to her name - once in the 48kg division and thrice in the 50kg category - did not concede a single point in her triumphant run as she pinned 26-year-old Neelam just before the end of the first period to win yet another gold.

Later, the 18-year-old Kajal lost 6-8 to Ukraine’s Anastasiya Alpyeyeva in a thrilling 76kg final.
With the score level at 4-4 and around 30 seconds left, Kajal was ahead on criteria before Alpyeyeva, a two-time European champion, got a turn and exposure to lead 8-4. The Indian teenager executed a late takedown but it wasn’t enough to avoid the defeat.
Neelam and Kajal joined Anshu Malik (57kg, Oslo 2021) as the only Indian women with silver medals at the prestigious tournament.
