KAI to add 7,000 daily seats under new intercity train timetable

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's state-owned railway operator KAI will add 7,000 daily seats to intercity services from December 1, lifting capacity to nearly 140,000 under its new 2026 timetable.
The increase will come from 39 additional train trips, KAI Vice President for Corporate Communications Anne Purba said in Jakarta on Tuesday. KAI is expanding capacity as it projects annual passenger growth of 8 percent to 12 percent.
"We can add 7,000 seats a day, bringing intercity capacity to nearly 140,000," she said.
KAI had served more than 440 million passengers through October, up 7 percent from a year earlier, and expects the total to exceed 500 million by year-end.

The 39 additional trips are part of KAI's 2026 Train Travel Schedule, known as Gapeka, which takes effect on December 1.
The additional services were intended to expand capacity and improve rail connections, particularly for travel between cities within provinces and in metropolitan areas.
"We are implementing Gapeka 2026 starting December 1, with 39 additional train trips," she said.
She added the capacity expansion would be supported by improvements to rail infrastructure, rolling stock and operating systems.
The new timetable also aims to increase ridership by expanding services in metropolitan areas and making travel more convenient.
