Translate

Two vehicles have caught fire after a truck crash in Western Australia’s Wheatbelt, with emergency services working to save the lives of those inside.

The crash between a refrigerated van and a truck towing a container trailer was reported about 6.45am at the intersection of Great Eastern Highway and Quellington Road in Meckering, about 130 kilometres from Perth.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) spokesperson said both vehicles were engulfed in flames when crews arrived around 7am.

Nine volunteer and career firefighting crews and four ambulance crews are at the scene, and the emergency helicopter has been dispatched.

Firefighters are still trying to extinguish the fire.

Ambulance crews have not yet been able to access the patients, and it is not known how many people are involved.

Great Eastern Highway remains closed near Quellington Road, with drivers advised to seek an alternate route.
