Ban on durbar, horse riding in Kano remains – Police
The police command in Kano State has reiterated the ban on Durbar and horse/animal-riding activities across the state, warning violators of the possibility of arrest and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, gave the warning at a news conference on Friday in Kano.
Aminu-Bakori said the ban, imposed by the Kano State Government after consultations with relevant security stakeholders, remained in force and was binding on everyone irrespective of status or position.
He said reports of apparent breaches of the directive had prompted the police and other security agencies to restate the need for strict compliance.
“The threats which the ban was put in place to check are still potent,” he said.
The commissioner said the primary responsibility of security agencies was to maintain public peace, safety and order, adding that no act capable of jeopardising public safety would be tolerated.
He said any individual, institution or organisation intending to organise any form of durbar or horse-riding activities in public places must submit a written request at least 72 hours before the event.
According to him, the notice must be submitted to the Office of the Commissioner of Police to enable security agencies to conduct the necessary security assessment and make adequate arrangements for public safety.
Aminu-Bakori urged residents to comply with all lawful security directives and cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace and order in the state.
He warned that anyone who violated the directive would be arrested and prosecuted, irrespective of the person’s position or status.
He assured residents that the police and other law enforcement agencies remained committed to safeguarding lives and property and maintaining peace and order across the state. (NAN)
