Suraj Singh Mayanglambam finishes 11th in Changquan final at Asian Games

India’s Suraj Singh Mayanglambam finished 11th in the Men’s Changquan Wushu final at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Sunday.

India's Suraj Singh Mayanglambam finished 11th in the men's Changquan Wushu final at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Sunday, ending his campaign outside the medal positions after competing in a 21-athlete field.Performing at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall, Suraj registered an overall score of 9.683 points. The Indian Wushu exponent produced a clean routine with no deductions and secured a full 5.00 in Quality of Movement (A-Score).

He also received 2.00 in Degree of Difficulty (C-Score), while his Overall Performance (B-Score) was 2.683. Despite the strong marks in movement quality and difficulty, his overall score placed him 11th in the final standings.Macau's Kuong Chi Hin claimed the gold medal after finishing with 9.723 points, while his compatriot Chi Kuan Song took silver with 9.720. The two Macau athletes occupied the top two positions in a tightly contested battle for the medals.There was no seeding or pre-event ranking used to determine the order in which the finalists performed. Instead, each of the 21 athletes was assigned a random starting number between 1 and 21 through either a computer or manual draw.

The draw therefore determined when each competitor would take to the floor.Changquan is one of the most dynamic disciplines in Wushu and demands athletes combine speed, power, flexibility and precision during a routine lasting around 90 seconds.The discipline is based on traditional northern Chinese kung fu movements and is characterised by explosive and acrobatic techniques. Athletes perform lightning-fast punches, deep lunging stances, high kicks and high-flying aerial jumps and spins as they attempt to execute their routines with precision.
