High Potential Goes Back To Basics After Major Cliffhanger In Season 3 First-Look

The most-anticipated reunion in High Potential season 3 is now revealed.

Ever since Kaitlin Olson's adaptation of the French series, HPI, debuted in 2024, it has immediately become a fan-favorite for a couple of reasons. For starters, the premise itself is quite intriguing — a return to the classic tried and tested genius consultant trope that seemingly died in the last few years. Secondly, the chemistry among the cast, topped by compelling cases, and finally, the brewing slow-burn romance between Morgan and her partner, Karadec.

In the 2025-2026 TV cycle, High Potential deepened the bond between the pair, even as they respectively explored other romantic pursuits. Karadec got back together with his ex-girlfriend, Lucia, while Morgan was about to begin a new affair with Steve Howey's Nick Wagner. By the end of High Potential season 2, both romances have fizzled out, but it's safe to say that the effects will last into the upcoming year. Regardless of how the pans out, Morgan and Karadec would have to put their professional faces back on and work cases.

As seen in a new High Potential season 3 image, Olson and Daniel Sunjata are back together. It's difficult to say if the pair is in LAPD Major Crimes offices or is on a crime scene, considering that the background is blurry. That said, it's nice to see that they are continuing their good detective work into the new season. Check out the photo below:

The photo also confirms that Sunjata won't be rocking blonde hair in High Potential season 3 — something that came up when he shared a photo of himself with dyed locks while the show was already in production. Considering what happened with Lucia, it wasn't difficult to imagine that he would want to do something different as a means to move on from the heartbreak. That said, the rumor proved to be divisive, so it's nice to know that ABC is sticking to his old looks.

While High Potential does a great job with its overarching narratives, it also excels with its procedural aspect. As a show on network TV, it relies on the weekly case format for its storytelling, which has the risk of being repetitive, especially for projects that have been running for a while now. High Potential differentiates itself by not only coming up with more creative mysteries but also quirky ways of solving it, primarily thanks to how the series conveys how Morgan's mind works.

Unfortunately for the public, the wait for High Potential season 3 is much longer than its past seasons. Olson's show isn't part of ABC's fall 2026 lineup, as it has been delayed to the midseason instead. It's joining The Rookie season 9, Will Trent season 5, and Shifting Gears season 3 in 2027. It shouldn't impact the number of episodes that the series will have, so this also means fewer breaks in-between its run.
