Penang DVS probing alleged dog-dragging incident

The veterinary services department (DVS) in Penang is investigating an incident involving two men who allegedly dragged a dog using a motorcycle in the Batu Lancang area here yesterday.

Penang DVS director Dr Saira Banu Mohamed Rejab, when contacted, confirmed receiving a report on the incident.

“Penang DVS is carrying out further investigations into the incident,” she said.

Meanwhile, animal rescuer David Yim said a woman who witnessed the incident had confronted the two men and asked them to stop, but they allegedly continued dragging the dog before leaving the scene.

He said the woman later lodged a report with the DVS and handed over photographs and videos believed to have captured the incident.

“The black dog is believed to have suffered serious injuries and was left at the scene,” he said.

He expressed hope that the authorities would conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action if there are elements of animal cruelty involved.
