Yuzvendra Chahal's Blunt Remark On Rs 18 Crore IPL Salary: "Indian Player Ko Mile Toh Problem"

Yuzvendra Chahal is the highest-ever-paid spinner in Indian Premier League history. The leggie achieved the distinction after Punjab Kings paid a whopping sum of Rs 18 crore for him at the IPL 2025 auction. This historic feat saw a massive jump of 177 per cent in Chahal's IPL salary, as the player used to receive Rs 6.5 crore from Rajasthan Royals until IPL 2024. For the last IPL season, Chahal was retained by PBKS at the very same price they paid to acquire his services in the auction.
While speaking on his IPL salary, Chahal pointed out that people have a problem if an Indian player gets such a big amount. He added that if an overseas player gets big money, nobody questions that. The spinner made the remarks on 'Baith & Bol with Aakash Chopra'.
"I never thought about it because I never played for money. Whether I get 5 crore or 25 crore, I will play the same way as I do. Somebody gets 12 to 13 crore in his very first season, but I have played for 15 years and I am the highest wicket-taker. I deserve it. Even if I get 25 crore, that means I deserve it. Indian player ko mile toh problem hamko ho jaati hai, yaar isko kaise mil gaye (We have a problem if an Indian player gets this big an amount. We wonder how did he get it). If an overseas player gets 25 crore, they are happy," Chahal said.
It is worth noting that Chahal is the highest wicket-taker in IPL history. He has 233 scalps to his name in 188 matches from 2013 to 2026. The spinner's bowling average is 23.24 and economy rate is 8.05. His best bowling figures in the tournament are 5/40. Adept at outplaying batters with his beautiful and brave flight and good turn, Chahal has registered eight four-wicket hauls in the IPL.
The spinner also holds an experience of playing 72 ODIs and 80 T20Is for India, scalping 121 and 96 wickets, respectively. Chahal has, however, failed to find a place in India's XI for more than three years now. He last played a game for the nation in August 2023, a T20I against West Indies in Lauderhill.
