‘House Of The Dragon’ Actress Maddie Evans Leads Brit Horror ‘Pendle 1612’ About Notorious Witch Trials

EXCLUSIVE: Maddie Evans (House of the Dragon) is set to lead upcoming British horror feature Pendle 1612, alongside newcomer Ella Moss and Gemma Laurie (Shetland).

Written and directed by Lancashire-born twin filmmakers Liam Bashford and Kyle Bashford, the film is a docu-horror inspired by the history surrounding the Pendle Witch Trials of 1612.

Evans will play Amy, with Moss as Hannah and Laurie as Meg, “three young women whose documentary into the disappearance of Amy’s older sister leads them into the landscape surrounding Pendle Hill, synonymous with Britain’s 1612 witch trials”, which resulted in the hanging of ten people convicted of witchcraft.

The film will shoot on location at the heart of Pendle in Lancashire, with principal photography commencing end of September. Pic is produced by Eleven Eleven Pictures.

Liam Bashford said: “Growing up in Lancashire, the story of the Pendle Witches has always been around us. There’s something about Pendle itself, the landscape, the isolation and the history beneath it. That has stayed with us since we were kids. We didn’t want to recreate 1612. We wanted to ask what might still be there today.”

Kyle Bashford added: “It was also incredibly important to us to bring a feature film home. There is so much filmmaking talent in the North West, and we want to show that ambitious independent films can be made here in Lancashire.”

The Bashford twins began making films together as teenagers in Blackburn before spending eight years working from Pinewood Studios. Their previous work includes the short film Waiting For Time, starring BAFTA winner Ariyon Bakare.

The twins are also executive producers on Una Notte, a short film produced by Harris Dickinson’s Devisio Pictures.
