‘Trailer Park Boys’ Actor Michael Smith Has Sexual Assault Charge Dismissed
Mike Smith, the Nova Scotia actor best known for playing Bubbles on the Trailer Park Boys comedy, has had a sexual assault charge against him dismissed.
A three-day sexual assault trial in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia began Thursday, but Judge Jill Hartlen called a halt to the case after crown prosecutors declined to present any evidence, according to the CBC News website on Thursday. “The court has dismissed the charge against Michael Smith, concluding the legal proceedings that began in October 2025 regarding an allegation dating to December 2017,” Trailer Park Boys Inc., a Nova Scotia-based company that produces the series and in which Smith is one of three directors, said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.
The company also has as directors Trailer Park Boys co-stars John Paul Tremblay, who plays Julian, and Robert Wells, who plays Ricky. The company added: “Now that he (Smith) is cleared of this matter, Mike is resuming his responsibilities with Trailer Park Boys Incorporated.”
Bubbles, Julian and Ricky and the rest of their Sunnyvale Trailer Park crew featured in the cult Canadian mockumentary about three petty criminals running scams from their Halifax business. The franchise included a TV series that streamed on Netflix and movies.
Smith stepped away from Trailer Park Boys Inc. in Oct. 2025 when he was charged with one count of sexual assault stemming from an alleged incident in 2017, and pleaded not guilty. The CBC, Canada’s public broadcaster, on its online news site said an unnamed complainant against Smith in a statement said she was “unwilling to sacrifice my mental health” by testifying during the trail.
The Trailer Park Boys was created in 2001 by Barry Dunn, Wells, Tremblay and Mike Clattenburg and originally launched on Canada’s Showcase channel. The series ended its Canadian TV run in 2008. Netflix picked up the Trailer Park Boys property in 2014.
