This year's 49th issue of Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits magazine announced on Monday that Mari Okada and Makoto Ojiro's Sistar Resistar manga will end in two chapters. The manga's next chapter will run in the magazine's 51st issue on November 16. If there are no delays, the manga will end on November 23.

The manga centers on Akira Nitta, the eldest daughter of the Nitta family. The family once ran an entire idol business, with Akira sewing the clothes, the father working the lights, Akira's younger brother playing the music, and Akira's younger sister singing and dancing as the idol talent herself. Though Akira wished that such idyllic days could go on forever, it was not to be, and a series of unfortunate events brings their dream to an end. But when Akira sees footage of an idol performance while working, her life begins to turn again.

Okada and Ojiro launched the manga in Big Comic Spirits in September 2024. Shogakukan published the manga's fourth compiled book volume on August 28, and will release the fifth volume on January 29.

Mari Okada is known for writing anime featuring relationships with highly charged interpersonal drama, often between teenagers, and often featuring taboo topics or relationships. Her melodrama often works to emphasize the difficulty of human relationships and connection. Some of her signature anime works include anohana, Toradora!, O Maidens in Your Savage Season (also based on a manga she wrote), Anthem of the Heart, Her Blue Sky, Hana-Saku Iroha, A Lull in the Sea, Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, and Kiznaiver, among many others. She made her anime directorial debut with Maquia, and most recently directed the 2023 film maboroshi. Most recently, she penned the script for the anime film Fureru. in October 2024, which she produced alongside her frequent Super Peace Busters creative team, with whom she worked on Toradora!, anohana, and Anthem of the Heart.

Ojiro launched the Insomniacs After School manga in Weekly Big Comic Spirits in May 2019, and ended it in August 2023. Shogakukan published the manga's 14th and final compiled book volume in October 2023. Viz Media licensed the manga in English and released the 14th volume on June 23.

The Insomniacs After School manga inspired an anime adaptation that premiered in Japan in April 2023. HIDIVE streamed the series as it aired in Japan. The music video for rock band Macaroni Enpitsu's "Enshin" (Centrifuge) song featured art from the manga in 2019.

The Insomniacs After School manga also inspired a live-action film that opened in Japan in June 2023.
