Passenger dies after medical emergency on Malaysia Airlines flight to Sydney

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 — A passenger died on board a Sydney-bound Malaysia Airlines flight after suffering a critical medical emergency mid-air on Wednesday.

Malaysia Airlines confirmed that the passenger on board flight MH141 from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney could not be revived despite immediate emergency medical intervention by crew members and qualified medical personnel on board, news.com.au reported.

A doctor, three nurses, and a cabin crew member rushed to assist the passenger and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but the doctor on board subsequently pronounced the individual dead.

The passenger, who was travelling alongside a family member, was identified by Daily Mail Australia as a 58-year-old Indian national who suffered a severe asthma attack during the eight-hour journey.

The flight departed Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday morning and touched down at Sydney Airport at 7.43pm local time.

New South Wales Police confirmed that officers were alerted at the international terminal around 5.50pm regarding a medical emergency involving a 58-year-old man on an inbound flight from Malaysia.

Authorities said the death is not being treated as suspicious and no further police investigation is expected.

In a statement yesterday, Malaysia Airlines extended its sincere condolences to the passenger’s family and apologised to travellers affected by delays and disruptions to flights MH141 and its return service, MH140.
