Com Ga Ba Nga Hoi An
Another branch of the perpetually packed Cabramatta shopfront, Com Ga Ba Nga Hoi An has expanded to Bankstown thanks largely to its headline dish: Hoi An-style com ga. This is no ordinary chicken-rice, however. Order a plate and the rice, tinted with turmeric, is lightly seasoned and fluffy, while the free-range birds – pulled to pieces behind the counter – are remarkably juicy.
Papaya salad and a bowl of sweet stewed offal bring crunch and richness. But the fun doesn’t end here. Bring friends, and you can dive into pho ga, built on a beautifully clear and golden broth, anchored by glassy noodles and finished with chunks of poached drumstick meat.
Want some structural contrast? A side of crisp snail spring rolls with house-made nuoc cham will do it. Don’t forget to add a sweet, citrusy iced “soaked crocodile water” iced tea or apricot soda to cut through the richness, then grab a takeaway container and get the jump on tomorrow’s breakfast.
Good to know: Like the original, it’s cash only, so look for the ATM near the station before you visit.
