米金利が高止まり 早期利上げ観測、政権逆風

 【ワシントン、ニューヨーク時事】米長期金利の高止まりが続いている。連邦準備制度理事会(FRB)による早期の追加利上げ観測や人工知能(AI)投資拡大などを受け、市場では債券売りが急加速。11月に中間選挙を控え、「アフォーダビリティー(手頃な価格)」を追求するトランプ政権にとって金利抑制は重要課題だ。しかし、40兆ドル(約6300兆円)を突破した連邦政府の債務が膨張する中、有効な対策は見当たらず政権に逆風が吹く。

 長期金利の指標である10年物米国債の利回りは23日、5%の大台を超えて急上昇し、19年ぶりの高水準を付けた。その後も連日記録を更新。週末25日の取引終盤は前日比0.04ポイント低下の5.16%と債券売りは一服したが、なお高い状況だ。

 今月中旬に約3年ぶりの利上げを決めたFRBは、追加引き締めに前向きな「タカ派」へ傾斜。クリーブランド連邦準備銀行のハマック総裁は25日、基調的なインフレは「高い」と懸念を示した。ニューヨーク連銀のウィリアムズ総裁は年内の追加利上げ観測について「合理的に思える」と支持を表明した。

 中東情勢悪化による原油高を背景としたインフレの長期化懸念などが根強く、金利先物市場は今後3回程度の追加利上げを織り込む。だが、市場関係者からは「利上げをしてもインフレが収束しないリスクも警戒されている」(日系証券)との指摘が聞かれる。

 政権はFRBのタカ派姿勢や金利上昇に神経をとがらせる。トランプ大統領はFRBに「金利を速やかに下げろ」と要求。ベセント財務長官は金利抑制を狙い長期国債の買い戻し拡大という奇策を主導したが、効果は長続きしなかった。市場では「失敗だった」(エコノミスト)と冷ややかな声も出ている。
