Perak SADC prioritises staff wellness

IPOH: Perak State Agricultural Development Corp (Perak SADC) has strengthened its workplace health culture through the Perak SADC Active & Wellness Day 2026 programme.

The event brought together 250 employees from the corporation's headquarters and plantations under its management.

It aimed to encourage an active lifestyle and highlight the importance of work-life balance in creating a healthier and more productive working environment.

Perak SADC chief executive officer Mohd Azhar Mohd Yusof said untreated health problems could affect employees' ability to perform their duties effectively and, in turn, impact organisational productivity.

"Sometimes, we see even young employees facing health problems. That is why we want to cultivate a culture of looking after our health so they can work well and achieve high performance.

"If our mental and physical health is not strong, how can we work towards high performance?" he said.

Azhar was speaking at the programme, themed "Active Together, Well Together", at Dewan Kelarai, Serai Estate, here yesterday.

The programme featured a 5km run and fun walk, free comprehensive health screenings and knowledge-sharing sessions on work-life balance, healthy eating and personal healthcare.

Free screening services included blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar and cholesterol checks, eye examinations, bone density tests, Smart Pulse assessments, body composition analysis and consultations.

The programme also featured interactive quizzes, lucky draws and a blood donation drive in collaboration with Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

Azhar said the event received sponsorship and support from the Health Ministry, HTM Pharmacy, Quill Ipoh Orthopaedic Hospital, Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh, Decathlon, Takaful Malaysia, ViQ and Serai Group.

Held in conjunction with National Sports Day, the programme provided an opportunity to boost ties between headquarters staff and employees at Perak SADC-managed plantations across the state.

"It gives plantation management staff an opportunity to interact with senior officers at headquarters. They can also undergo health screenings and donate blood."

Azhar said Perak SADC planned to organise more recreational activities next year to promote healthy living, including hiking and rafting.

"These activities are aimed at safeguarding the health of Perak SADC employees while boosting relationships among colleagues through group recreation."

In a related development, Azhar said the corporation's commitment to employee welfare had been recognised through two awards.

These were the HR Sustainability & Transformation Award 2026 at the Asean HR Excellence Awards 2026 (Malaysia Edition) and the Perak Best Employer Award 2026 from the Employees Provident Fund.

"These awards show that we prioritise employee welfare. Human resources are our most valuable asset because our people are the ones who drive the organisation towards excellence," he said. By Muhammad Zulsyamini Sufian Suri
