Calabarzon domestic workers to get P750 monthly wage hike

Translate

MANILA, Philippines — Around 201,000 domestic workers in the Calabarzon region will receive a P750 monthly wage increase starting Oct. 26, raising their minimum monthly pay to P7,500 under a new wage order.

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in Region IV-A issued Wage Order No. RB-IVA-DW-06, which covers domestic workers in Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon and Rizal, the wage board said on Oct. 10.

The new rate raises the minimum monthly wage for domestic workers from P6,750 to P7,500.

The order covers domestic workers in both live-in and live-out arrangements, including househelps, nannies, cooks, gardeners and laundry workers. Family drivers, service providers and workers hired on an occasional or sporadic basis are excluded.

The National Wages and Productivity Commission approved the adjustment after considering the region’s socioeconomic conditions, domestic workers’ needs and employers’ capacity to pay. Public hearings and stakeholder consultations were also held in Cavite, Rizal, Quezon and Laguna as part of the wage-setting process.

Employers and domestic workers may agree to compensation higher than the prescribed minimum based on the worker’s skills and performance.

Failure to pay the mandated minimum wage violates Republic Act No. 10361, or the Batas Kasambahay Act, and may result in legal penalties.
