Paul Walker’s Brother Says AI Could Bring Actor Back for Final ‘Fast and Furious’ Movie but ‘I Would Not Be Interested in Doing That’

Paul Walker‘s brother does not want to be involved in bringing back the late actor’s character, Brian O’Conner, for Universal’s next “Fast and Furious” movie. He knows AI could be used to do it, but he doesn’t think it should be done. 

“AI was not a thing back in 2014, so they could do that,” Cody Walker told Entertainment Weekly. “There’s years of footage that was never used from these other ‘Fast’ films. They’re the best in the business, they can figure that out.”

Even if the “Fast and Furious” team doesn’t use AI, Cody Walker is “not interested” in stepping in as a stunt double for 2028’s “Fast Forever.” The decision to bring him back for the finale, he said, should ultimately come down to Paul’s daughter, Meadow.

“My stance is, it’s what Meadow wants to see done; it’s her father,” Walker said. “I would not be interested in doing that again. I love the way his character exited the franchise. They didn’t kill him off, they didn’t do something cheesy like that. It’s beautiful, [Brian] is off raising his kids. But if they want to do that, if Meadow would like to see that, they don’t need me or Caleb.”

Cody and Caleb Walker previously stood in for Paul after he died in a car crash on a break from filming “Furious 7” in 2013. With the help of visual effects, “Furious 7” was completed and gave Paul’s character a graceful exit. Back in 2018, his brothers were not against returning to the franchise in the future. 

“I just hope we get to have a little cameo and bring Paul back to save the day and I get to help create that again,” Caleb had told Entertainment Weekly at the time, with Cody adding, “I think there could potentially be a way to do it. But it would take a lot of thought and it’d have to be tasteful.”

Cody’s current stance against a cameo comes in opposition to “Fast” star Vin Diesel’s insistence on bringing Paul’s character Brian back for the finale.

“The studio said to me, ‘Vin, can we please have the finale of Fast & Furious [in] April 2027?’” Diesel told Vanity Fair in 2025. “I said, ‘Under three conditions.’ The first is to bring the franchise back to L.A. The second thing was to return to the car culture, to the street racing. The third thing was reuniting Dom and Brian O’Conner. That is what you’re going to get in the finale.” 

The supposedly final installment of the decades-long franchise “Fast Forever” hits theaters March 17, 2028. It’s still unclear, even to Cody, whether or not it will have one last scene of Paul. 

“I have no idea what to expect there,” Cody said. “I talked to Vin, and when it comes to this whole process, he gets very ethereal; it’s a lot of weight. The guy is incredible, he’s extremely gifted, he takes this very seriously and there’s a mountain on Vin’s shoulders. He wants this to be the best one and as good as it can be because it’s the final [one].”
